Buying the right mobile package for your business

Signing up for the wrong business mobile package can result in a host of problems and cause your operating costs to spiral. This means it’s vital that you know what to look for when you’re searching for a new contract.

Luckily, there are plenty of deals to choose from. For example, you can head to firms such as Chess to peruse the range of mobile packages on offer. However, before you start looking at individual offers, it’s important that have your priorities straight. Here are some of the main issues to consider when you’re getting a new mobile contract.

For many companies, calls are the main focus of mobile contracts. After all, being able to pick up the phone to speak to customers, suppliers, business partners and so on is a must for enterprises. To benefit from the best possible contract, you’ll need to understand your call usage. By monitoring your level of call activity before signing up to a new deal, you should find it easier to identify the tariffs that suit you best.

It’s also important to bear in mind that call allowances are generally restricted to national landline numbers, while mobile and non-geographical numbers tend to be charged at a higher rate. Before you sign a contract, you should make sure you fully understand any call exclusions and are aware of the extent to which they will affect you.

If you make a lot of international calls, you might be best going for a mobile VoIP solution. However, if you intend to take this approach, you’ll need a very large data allowance or your costs may end up soaring.

Mobile data allowances are becoming increasingly important as a part of business mobile contracts. To get the best deal, you’ll need to understand your typical mobile web usage. Bear in mind that sending and receiving emails doesn’t tend to use much data, but attachments such as large documents and photos can. Browsing the web is also a fairly low-usage activity. In contrast, video streaming eats through data quickly.

If you often engage in high data usage activities, you’ll need a contract with a significant allowance. Although this may mean your set costs are higher, it will save you money overall and it will help ensure you don’t feel restricted when using your mobile.

There’s no point in getting a great deal on your business mobile if you can’t use your phone much of the time due to a lack of reception. This could spell disaster for your daily operations and it is a waste of money too.

Most operators offer good services across the UK. However, before you sign any contracts, make sure you check the coverage in the areas where you will use your phone. This is especially important if you live or work or rural areas, where services can be limited.

Contract length

Contract length is another variable to consider. If you’re confident that a particular deal is right for you and you foresee yourself requiring a business mobile for a long time, it may be wise to go for a 24 or 36-month contract. This could help you get a more competitive deal and lower your monthly payments. However, if you’re unsure about a contract or you think your circumstances may change, it may be better to opt for a shorter deal.

To Quiz or Not to Quiz?

The title of this article is, of course, a rhetorical question. Since time immemorial, quizzes have captured the interest of generation after generation of all manner of people, both ordinary and anorak. In quizzing, we find the compelling combination of a contest, a challenge, a chance to learn and a test of knowledge and lateral thinking.

Whether you like to get inside the question compiler’s head just like Eggheads panellist Kevin Ashman or you’re a crammer who likes to tactically scour the annals of history before a quizzing showdown, there’s always a fun and stimulating experience to be found in quizzing.

Pop quizzes for teacher’s pets

For many of us, some of our earliest encounters with quizzing came during our school days. Keener students have always taken joy in this opportunity to prove their erudition in a competitive format, which represents an opportunity to get one over on pupils of greater sporting or social prowess. Generally speaking, how enjoyable academic pop quizzes were depended quite heavily on how much revision you’d done…

Battling boredom with board games

Much more reliably fun for all comers, quizzing board games (usually) offered a less highly pressured quiz experience than academic tests. The king of them all would have to be the wonderful Trivial Pursuit – still popular to this day – which comprehensively tests competitors’ knowledge in a race to grab every segment of the circle and reach the middle of the board. A word of warning: the Genius edition of this game is fiendishly hard and not for the faint of heart.

Of quaffing lager and quizzing legends

How could any ode to the quiz be complete without a mention of pub quizzing? Popular throughout the world and contested at a number of levels – sometimes fiercely, often just for fun – pub quizzes are a staple of modern life.

Recent years have seen this format of quizzing imperilled somewhat by the arrival of smart phone technology – a trip to the toilet now offers ample time to google the answer to a tough question – but it’s that very same technology which is now saving the day, thanks to SpeedQuizzing, an app which allows users to play along to a quiz in real time, using a smart phone or tablet.

You can even get money off your play by checking out the speed quizzing discounts page. Quizzing in its many formats is ever-changing, but its widespread appeal continues to stand the test of time.

As long as there’s such a thing as human knowledge, there’ll be a quizmaster ready and raring to test it.
